Founded in January 2007 with a motto, “We have to go back to work as soon as the game is over,” the Women’s League is all about fun and friendship. Soccer took off in the United States as a women’s sport in high school and college in the 1980s, and many of the women who were part of this trend are now moms in Hudson. When HSA conducted a survey in the fall of 2006 about the possibility of starting a women’s league, the answer was a resounding YES! And so now Hudson women have it, a league of their own.
The league began on January 6, 2007, with about 20 women. By February 2007, about 40 women were regularly turning out for the Saturday morning games. And with large crowds of children and men cheering them on, HSA hopes that the Women’s league will become a tradition in Hudson.
The Women’s League now has 4 teams. If there is sufficient interest, HSA will expand the league to 6 teams during the indoor sessions.
